Inner Power: The Pelvic Health Playbook for Young Female Athletes
In our course Inner Power: The Pelvic Health Playbook for Young Female Athletes, you’ll learn that your body is stronger than you think, and understanding it is the first step to performing at your best. Created and taught by Laura Powers, a physiotherapist and former varsity volleyball player with advanced training in pelvic health, this course gives athletes the knowledge and tools to understand what's happening in their bodies, and what to do about it.
Pelvic health is one of the most underserved areas in sport. Research shows that roughly 1 in 4 female athletes who play impact sports experience bladder leakage. Painful periods sideline athletes every month. Constipation, fatigue, and energy deficiency affect performance in ways that often go unrecognized. These aren't just things to push through. They're signals… and there's a lot that can be done to boost your health and performance.
In the course, Laura covers the anatomy of the pelvic floor and core, bladder leakage and what actually causes it in young athletes, bowel health and its surprising connection to other symptoms, period health including how to track your cycle, manage pain, and know when to seek help, and RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport), a condition that can affect every system in the body when athletes aren't fueling enough to match their output. Practical exercises for breathing, pelvic floor awareness, core connection, and period pain relief are woven throughout.
The video course is designed for athletes aged 14 and up, and a valuable resource for the coaches and adults who support them.

Why We Made This Course
Strong Girl Publishing exists to tell moving stories for strong girls, by strong girls. Every book, every resource, and every partnership SGP takes on connects back to our mission of centering girls and women in sport, making sure they have the knowledge, tools, and confidence to fully inhabit their athletic lives.
Inner Power fits perfectly into that vision. Created by physiotherapist Laura Powers, the course gives young female athletes something that has historically been hard to find: clear, honest, body-literate information about how their bodies actually work… before they need it. Pelvic floor function, period health, fuelling, core mechanics -- these are not niche topics. They are foundational to athletic performance and long-term wellbeing, and yet most young athletes move through their entire development without ever receiving this kind of education.
When girls understand their bodies, they make better decisions, ask better questions, and feel more ownership over their athletic experience. They're less likely to push through symptoms that deserve attention. They're better equipped to advocate for themselves with coaches, doctors, and parents. And that is what makes them strong girls.
Questions about the Inner Power Course
Who is this course for?
Inner Power is designed for young female athletes aged 14 and up who want to understand how their bodies work -- and how that knowledge connects directly to their performance and long-term health. It's also a valuable resource for parents, coaches, and educators who support young athletes. The content is suitable for school, sport club, and community settings.
Is this course appropriate for younger athletes, under 14?
Possibly! A parent or coach could use discretion for a mature 12 or 13 year old, especially one who’s experiencing their period and needs some guidance. We suggest a parent following along with their athlete for younger athletes.
Is this course only for competitive athletes?
No. While the content is framed around athletic performance, the topics -- pelvic floor health, period education, bowel health, and fuelling -- are relevant to any young person with an active lifestyle. You don't need to be on a team or competing at any particular level to benefit.
Is this course suitable for male athletes or athletes who don't identify as female?
The course focuses on female-specific anatomy and is taught using she/her language, though it acknowledges that people with female anatomy may identify differently. The content on RED-S is relevant to athletes of all genders, but the course as a whole is designed with female physiology as the primary focus.
Who created this course?
Inner Power was created and taught by Laura Powers, a Registered Physiotherapist and owner of Higher Function Women's Health in Collingwood, Ontario. Laura has advanced training in pelvic health and a background as a competitive varsity volleyball player. The course is published by Strong Girl Publishing.
Is this a medical program?
No. Inner Power is an educational course, not a clinical program. It does not constitute medical advice, physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, or treatment, and it does not replace the care of a qualified healthcare provider. If you or your athlete has existing health concerns, please consult a healthcare professional before participating.
What topics does the course cover?
The course covers pelvic floor anatomy and function, deep core mechanics, breath connection, bladder leakage in athletes, bowel health and its connection to other symptoms, period health (tracking, products, pain management, and when to seek help), and RED-S (Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport). Practical movement exercises are woven throughout.
How long is the course?
The course is made up of two modules. Module 1 runs approximately 25 to 35 minutes and Module 2 runs approximately 30 to 40 minutes. Both break into shorter sub-segments, so you can work through them in one sitting or across multiple sessions. There are also exercise sequences, a glossary, and a list of further references and resources.
Do I need any equipment?
No equipment is needed. The movement exercises are done on the floor and require only enough space to lie down comfortably. A yoga mat is helpful but not required.
Is there any nudity or graphic content?
No. Anatomy is taught using diagrams, animations, and model demonstrations. All content is age-appropriate and clinically framed.
Can I skip around, or do I have to watch in order?
It’s up to you! We have them in the order we think makes the most sense, and definitely recommend starting with the Introduction and Anatomy videos, but after that, you can skip sections if you want.
Are there subtitles or closed captions?
Yes.
Yes.
Is the course available in French or other languages?
The course is only available in English.
How long do I have access to the course?
Your access is unlimited in duration -- there is no expiry date under normal circumstances. If Strong Girl Publishing ever changes platforms or discontinues the course, you will receive at least 30 days' notice and a one-time download link for all course materials. We recommend saving materials you find valuable to your own device as you go.

Should I preview this course before my child takes it?
We encourage parents and guardians of athletes under 18 to review the course content before their child participates. The material covers anatomy, pelvic floor function, menstrual health, bowel health, and sport nutrition in an age-appropriate, evidence-informed way. If you have questions about suitability for your child's individual needs, please consult their healthcare provider.
Can this course be shown in a classroom or team setting?
Yes. The course is designed for educational delivery in school, sport, and community settings. Facilitators are responsible for ensuring delivery is appropriate for their setting and consistent with their institution's policies.
Will this course scare young athletes or make them worried about their health?
The course is designed to build confidence, not create anxiety. The framing throughout is educational and empowering -- the goal is to normalize these topics so athletes feel informed and capable, not alarmed.
What if I have symptoms that the course describes?
Inner Power is an educational resource, not a clinical one. If you recognize symptoms described in the course, the first step is to speak with a parent, guardian, or healthcare provider. You do not need a referral to see a pelvic floor physiotherapist in Canada or most U.S. states.
Who do I contact if I have a question about the course content or my purchase?
Email info@stronggirlpublishing.com. We aim to respond within 3 to 5 business days.
What Teaches Say
Laura led the Gr.9 gym class through a pelvic floor health workshop and the girls loved her! She made the girls feel comfortable with the topic and it was a great mix of delivered information and hands on movement. Great feedback from the girls on this presentation and we would definitely have Laura again!
What Parents Say
(Laura's) Inner Power Program is finally bringing up an overlooked and underrated topic to our young women! Laura's knowledge flows so easily through her open and genuine nature. The ease in which the course content progresses through strengthening exercises, problem prevention strategies, and useful facts - engaged my daughter's interest and made her feel comfortable discussing and learning about pelvic floor health. I truly wish this was a course requirement in every school's health class because I feel strongly that this could be an early intervention! It is uplifting to know that this program is out there.
