Sara Bergen of Rally UHC Cycling is Canada’s National Champ in the criterium and she’s one of the coolest women in pro cycling right now. Her words of wisdom for aspiring Shred Girls are tough but so true, and they’ll make you so much happier in your cycling:
“It sounds brutal, but you’re going to fail, so get used to it and learn to be kind to yourself through failure. Racing is really challenging, and that’s why we do it. So, you’re going to have bad races. It’s nothing wrong with you—and if you’re ready for those not-great results, you’ll be able to have great ones. Lean into those failures, and embrace them.”

And listen to her and I talking about her top 3 tips on the Canadian Cycling Podcast, or read the condensed version here:
- Get a bike fit. You touch the bike in three spots, you have to make those spots count. Be comfortable on your bike, because if you’re struggling from the get-go, it’s going to be frustrating.
- Take more snacks with you on a ride than you need.
- Ride with people and have fun!
