Shred Girls Book Club

A favorite of mountain bike clubs and BMX parks, the Shred Girls books are a great way to get girls inspired to ride more! (There’s a reason NICA clubs have bought them in bulk to share with new young women riders.) Teams and clubs regularly bring author Molly Hurford to practices and virtual chats to talk about all things cycling—we can have a proper book club chat about the trials and tribulations that Lindsay, Ali and Jen experience, of course, but we can also chat about all things bike-related… even the awkward stuff that can be kinda hard to bring up with your coach, like if you should be wearing underwear with your bike shorts! Think of this as a cozy chat with a cool cousin who has a lot of advice to share (and some really embarrassing stories she doesn’t mind telling!)

AGE: Middle grade (4th-8th) and early high school (9th-10th)

Book club package includes:

  • Your choice of Shred Girls books, of course! Choose from Lindsay’s Joyride, Ali’s Rocky Ride, Jen’s Bumpy Ride or Lindsay and the Curse of Gemini Lakes—or opt for a mix of the books so your team has the whole collection. (Minimum of 10 required, includes a 10% discount from retail pricing)
  • Stickers
  • PDF download with key themes & takeaways from the book, guided discussion questions, and printable worksheets (tied into the book’s themes)
  • Optional hour-long virtual meeting with author Molly Hurford

Athlete’s Guide to Sponsorship Book Club

If you’re a coach working with athletes who are about to take the next step in their careers, shifting from high school to college, graduating college, or shifting from junior to U23 or U23 to elite and are hoping to continue in their sport, this is a great book and virtual session to bring to the team. Molly Hurford, author of The Athlete’s Guide to Sponsorship, has been working in the running and cycling industries for nearly 20 years, racing at the elite level for over a decade. In this book, she shares tips for crafting a race resume that will actually get looked at by brands, how to write an email (and who to send it to) and even some budgeting tips for making it as a solo pro.

BOOKING WINTER 2025 Power Up Book Club + Athlete Nutrition Session with Stevie Lyn Smith, RD

We highly recommend booking the virtual session with our author Stevie Lyn Smith, RD, especially if you’re a coach of a girls’ team. The book is packed with useful tips for fueling, from all day meal advice and a breakdown of things like macros and micronutrients, plus tons of advice on fueling training and competition optimally—all through the lens of young women athletes, who have different needs than their male counterparts and even compared to adult women. But every sport will have specific needs and tricky things to contend with, so the book in combination with a live session with Stevie is the perfect way to help your young women learn about nutrition and then really dig into the specifics that they need in order to thrive. (This is a fantastic deal for teams, by the way—registered dietitians often charge much more for sessions like this with teams, but we want to reach as many young women as possible so we’re making it affordable!)

BOOKING FALL 2025 Mirror Diaries Book Club with Vanessa Coulbeck

Vanessa Coulbeck is a recent Master’s graduate in sport and exercise psychology where her work has focused on self-compassion, body image and physical activity promotion for young girls. She is also a dynamic leader in youth empowerment and social impact initiatives. Book one of her middle grade and young adult series, The Mirror Diaries, will come out in 2025 with Strong Girl Publishing.

Vanessa is a recent Masters graduate focusing on body image and physical activity promotion for young girls. BOOKING FALL 2025 Self-Compassion and Affirmations Workshop with Vanessa Coulbeck

Vanessa believes sport is a powerful platform for girls to express themselves, build resilience, and experience joy. Combined with education, it equips them to challenge stereotypes, dismantle barriers, and lead meaningful change in their communities. She envisions a future where every girl has the confidence, resilience, and opportunities to reach their full potential, with sport serving as a catalyst for growth, empowerment, and equality. Through her work, Vanessa continues to champion initiatives that empower girls to believe in their abilities, appreciate their bodies, and build supportive, inclusive communities.

Through partnerships with national and international organizations, Vanessa has developed impactful resources, including sport engagement frameworks, body image programming, and school-based physical activity projects promoting wellness for youth, which she has presented in international spaces to drive systemic change. As she engaged in this work with various charity organizations, including one of Strong Girl Publishing’s favorite organizations, Fast and Female, she facilitated programming for girls and continues to work with the organization as they develop more initiatives around body image. In doing this work and connecting directly with young women, she has seen how these shifts in thinking could help them embrace themselves and recognize their potential. She also saw this shift through leading sessions with Big Brothers and Big Sisters youth. The idea for the book series stemmed from her desire to share these messages and resources with a broader audience, and her accompanying workbook includes many of the exercises she regularly teaches.

FAQs

Looking for a Different Talk?

Our authors speak on many topics from nontraditional career paths to specifics around strength training for sprinters. Fill out the Form and let us know what you’re looking for and we’re happy to work with your group to make it happen.

Hosting IRL Events

We do occasionally host IRL events, so if you’d like one of our authors to come to your group, school or conference, fill out the Form and let us know. (Many of our authors live in the Toronto, Ontario, area.)

Pricing

Our book prices depend on the retail price of the book, but for book clubs, they’re offered at a 10% discount and we find the most competitive rates on shipping. Our virtual author talks are $300—almost entirely going directly into our author’s pockets so that they’re able to continue to do what they do, writing, racing and inspiring the next generation!

Scholarships and discounts are available for girls’ groups, teams and clubs on tight budgets, so let us know if price is a barrier for your group. Please note that we aren’t able to accommodate all requests, so if you’re able to pay full price, please do so and leave that space for another group in need. (We wish we could do this for free for everyone, but our authors need to eat too!) And as always, 5 percent of net profits go to groups that support girls in sport.
