Sakura is a BMXing Shred Girl From Japan with Crazy-Cool Tricks!

Sakura (better known as sakura_bmx_rider on Instagram!) is a 10-year-old BMX rider from Tokyo, Japan, and I was so excited that we were able to do an interview with her! Seeing Shred Girls around the world is super inspiring, and the coolest part is that she not only can do amazing tricks on her bike, but she’s emulating other Shred Girls like Chelsea Wolfe, practicing tricks like Chelsea’s 360!

What does a week of training/riding look like for you? How often do you practice?

I am training BMX about 3 to 4 days out of a week.

Best tip for someone your age or younger who’d love to get started riding/racing, but doesn’t know anyone else to ride with?

I think that it is fun to ride by imitating your favorite BMX rider with SNS such as Instagram. I often imitate the technique of my favorite rider. Chelsea, Angie, Minato, Nina, they are the best cool girls BMXer.

Best tip for tackling a scary section in a bike park, like the pump track for someone super new to riding?

I think it’s better to start with a small section of skate park and trail course, it’s more enjoyable to start small and build from there!

What about advice for trying a new trick for the first time? How do you get started when you want to learn something new?

I imagine the happiness when I succeed! A new trick will make a successful image on Instagram, which is cool, but I start small and practice little by little to build to the trick.
