Power Up! Strong Girl Publishing Announces New Book on Sports Nutrition for Young Women Athletes 


Strong Girl Publishing is thrilled to announce the upcoming release of “Power Up: A Young Woman’s Guide to Winning with Sports Nutrition,” set to hit shelves in late Fall 2025. This book, co-authored by renowned sports dietitian Stevie Lyn Smith, RD, and accomplished author Molly Hurford, aims to address the unique nutritional needs and challenges faced by young women athletes in high school and college.

“Power Up” will offer invaluable insights into sports nutrition tailored specifically for young women, covering essential topics including the building blocks of nutrition on and off the playing field, navigating dorm room cooking, fueling for two-a-day practices, addressing body image issues in sports and developing healthy relationships with food and performance

Stevie Lyn Smith, RD, brings her extensive experience as a board-certified specialist in sports nutrition to this project. As the founder of Stevie Lyn Nutrition, a virtual sports nutrition private practice, Smith has helped hundreds of athletes optimize their performance through proper fueling strategies. Her personal background as a team-sport athlete and completion of ten full Ironman distance triathlons provides a unique perspective on the importance of nutrition in athletic success.

Co-author Molly Hurford, an author, journalist and podcaster specializing in cycling, running, and nutrition, complements Smith’s expertise with her engaging writing style and deep understanding of women in sports. She’s also the author of the cycling nutrition guidebook “Fuel Your Ride” (Rodale, 2016).

Stevie Lyn Smith, RD, shared her excitement about the project: “As someone who has experienced the challenges of being a young woman in sports firsthand, I’m thrilled that we can share this comprehensive guide that addresses the specific nutritional needs of this demographic. Our goal is to empower young women athletes to fuel their bodies effectively while maintaining a healthy relationship with food and their bodies.”

Power Up: A Young Woman’s Guide to Winning with Sports Nutrition” is poised to become an essential resource for young women athletes, coaches, and parents alike. The book will be available for pre-order in Summer 2025.

ABOUT STEVIE LYN SMITH, RD

Stevie Lyn Smith is a registered dietitian and founder of Stevie Lyn Nutrition, a virtual sports nutrition private practice. Her mission is to help educate and coach athletes and active humans on how to fuel their goals while not sacrificing their health and happiness. 

As a board certified specialist in sports nutrition, Stevie Lyn has helped hundreds of athletes and active individuals fuel to improve their performance, energy levels, and recovery without feelings of guilt or restriction. Drawing from her experiences growing up as a team-sport athlete to completing ten full Ironman distance triathlons and countless other endurance and ultra distance races, she knows firsthand how important nutrition is to be a healthy athlete. 

She received her B.S. in Dietetics and Nutrition from SUNY Buffalo State University in 2012 and M.S. in Applied Nutrition with a Sports and Fitness concentration from Northeastern University in 2019. She is the host of her podcast, Real Fuel with SLS, where she has honest conversations to dive into the human side of endurance sports paired with sports nutrition knowledge for the everyday athlete. She has also contributed to Run Tri Bike Magazine, Runner’s World Magazine, Outside Magazine, Bicycling Magazine, and Triathlete Magazine. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering at her local animal shelter. When she’s not swimming, biking, or running you can find her outside exploring new trails or with her dog in sunny Buffalo, NY.
